How to take advantage of RTWNJ in 2016 – Part Two

Albert Einstein is credited with saying “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” With this being said, why are so many people insistent on using the same job searching techniques over and over again without success? If you’ve sent out the same resume 100 or even 1,000 times and haven’t received an interview, don’t you think it’s time to try something else?

This is where the Ready To Work NJ program steps in to help! Our professionally created 2 Day Job Readiness Workshops provide you with a means to make a significant change in your job search routine. Created by professionals who have walked in your shoes and taught by like-minded instructors, these programs can help you make the sometimes subtle changes that can move you towards the job winning interview.

In the workshops you will learn how to:

  1. Write and improve your cover letter and resume to catch hiring manager’s interest.
  2. Tips and techniques for interviewing once you get your foot in the door.
  3. How to improve your networking and social media presence.

If you think you won’t benefit from this workshop, think again. The job market has changed considerably in the last 5-10 years and it’s no longer business as usual to get a job. Think about this – you have about 30 seconds (sometimes less) to have your resume make an impression. Don’t you want it to be the best it can be?

Workshops are scheduled at a variety of community colleges each month. This is the first step in the Ready to Work NJ program and is a prerequisite to requesting training. Please view the schedule below.

7 Reasons You Need Personal Business Cards

A funny story I tell my workshop attendees is about how I ordered 250 personal business cards on www.vistaprint.com, only to find when I opened them that I’d spelled my occupation wrong: “worksop facilitator.”

There went 250 personal business cards into the trash.

I’m ashamed to put this in print, but I’m making a point; make sure you spell-check your order before submitting it. This is hardly the point of this blog post, though. Read More.

60% of hiring managers look up candidates online

We’ve already seen parents invade Facebook — now employers are getting in on the act.A 2016 CareerBuilder survey found that 60% of employers research job candidates on social media. That’s eight percentage points up from last year, and a staggering 49 percentage points up from when the annual social media recruitment survey first began in 2006.

Bosses in certain industries are more likely to check a candidate’s profile. IT, for instance, leads the pack with 76% of employers screening job seekers on social media, trailed by sales (65%), financial services (61%), and healthcare and retail (tied at 59%). Read More.
